Biography

Iona is currently shooting an episode of the new series "Citizen Baines," for NBC. She recently played the character Umali on a new episode of "Star Trek: Voyager" entitled "Work Force, Part 1" which aired February 21, 2001. When she was a child, she played in episode 12 of the original "Star Trek," entitled "Miri" and was one of the fortunate actors to star in one of the episodes of the second "Twilight Zone" series. For the last couple years, Iona has played Dr. Susan Hosking on the Discovery Channel's first live action series entitled "The Adventures of ARK," which is the no.2 nighttime drama series in Japan. She was just seen in the movie of the week "The Princess and the Marine" and, for the last three years, Iona has recurred on the series "Moesha" as Aunt Sandy. Iona has also appeared on such sitcoms as "Martin," "The Wayan Bros.," "Homeboys in Outer Space" and guest starred on hour dramas "Murder She Wrote," "Hill Street Blues," and many others. Iona recurred as Fiona Griffin on "As The World Turns," for four years and had a recurring role on "General Hospital." Her favorite film role was in Tim Reid's Once Upon A Time When We Were Colored," where Iona received critical acclaim for playing the dancer, Nila Fontaine. Iona is also the original voice of Storm from the "X-Men" cartoon series, which aired in the 80's, Medusa in the "Fantastic Four," and Robbie Robinson's wife in "Phantom 2040" and many other cartoon series. Iona will soon be heard as Wanda on the new Fox Family cartoon series "Da' Mob" due to air this September 2001. Iona began her career in theatre, working from Los Angeles to New York. In 1997, Iona won a Hollywood NAACP Theater Award for Best Supporting Actress and the Best Ensemble Cast DramaLogue Award for her work in Kevin Arkadie's play "Up The Mountain." In the same year, she won a second DramaLogue Award for "Home" and "Piano Lesson," which were staged at the Denver Center Theatre Company and "Blues For An Alabama Sky" at The Sacramento Theatre Company. Iona has done most of her theatre work in Los Angeles, in the acapella musical "Mens," the long running "Girl Bar," "Indigo Blues," and "Tartuffe" among many others. In New York, she debuted the plays "Native Speech," "Telltale Hearts," and "A Perfect Diamond." Iona has written three one-woman shows and is performing her current one- person show "For You" (nominated for an L.A. Weekly Award) Where she portrays her famous father, Greg Morris from "Mission: Impossible," in theaters around the country.
